Description
The moon is a different kind of beautiful every night. This painting was my attempt to capture it at its zenith of majesty- glowing as richly (if not as strongly) as the sun. It reminds me of a cursed gold coin hidden in the murky depths of a cavern, or the sickly yet luminously pale face of a beautiful maiden adorned in a wispy grey mourning veil that blows about her face. Or the eye of a beautiful, yet terrible, God, peering through the skies from a faraway universe. I placed this ethereal moon in my favorite setting, a lake surrounded by forests and a cozy cabin. It’s a scene of comfort for me that I feel offsets the frightening mystery of the overpowering heavens. This world is a paradox, both strange and familiar, frightening and comforting, playful and yet somber, beautiful and ugly.
